Monsoon Forests

    0.01 sec.
Monsoon Forests

forests with trees that undergo leaf fall during the dry season. Monsoon forests are distributed in the monsoon tropics and other regions with monsoon climates; they are found on the Indian subcontinent and in China, northern and northeastern Australia, and tropical Africa and America. Outside the tropics, monsoon forests are particularly widespread in East Asia. Such forests on the Indian subcontinent and in Indochina include mixed rain forests (grading to evergreen) and dry teak and sal forests. Typical monsoon forests grow on plains and make up the low forest belt of the Himalayas. Australian monsoon forests are formed by eucalyptus two-story light forests, which are similar to deciduous forests. Deciduous monsoon forests are encountered in Central America along the Pacific coast and in South America along the eastern foothills of the Andes.
