3Dfx
(3Dfx Interactive) A company that specialized in 3D accelerator chips and arcade game subsystems geared to the entertainment market. Founded in 1994 and located in San Jose, CA, it went out of business after it tried to market its own line of display adapters instead of just making the chips that others would build into products. In 2000, 3Dfx sold its remaining assets to NVIDIA. Its most significant contribution was the Voodoo Graphics processors, which are used in a variety of products.
