Monte Sano State Park

Location: Within the city limits of Huntsville in northeast Alabama.
Facilities: 89 modern campsites (é), primitive campsites, comfort stations, 14 family cottages, lodge with meeting facilities, picnic area, group pavilions, hiking trails (20 miles), mountain bike trail (8 miles), camp store, playground, amphitheater.
Activities: Camping, hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing.
Special Features: Monte Sano's mountaintop retreat combines the history of the 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps building projects with the technology of the modern Space and Rocket Center city of Huntsville. The lodge originally built by the CCC and destroyed by fire in 1947 has been reconstructed, restoring the facility's beauty while also modernizing it and keeping its original intent available to the public. Other developments of the CCC that are still in use include 11 stone cabins, the picnic area and pavilions, and an amphitheatre.
