On southwesternmost border of CO; organized Apr 16, 1889, from La Plata County. The corners of four states, CO, AZ, NM, and UT, meet at this point, the only place in the U.S. where this occurs. Name Origin: For Montezuma (1479?-1520), Aztec Indian emperor of Mexico who was conquered by Hernan Cortez (1485-1547)
