In central PA, southeast of Williamsport; organized May 3, 1850 from Columbia County. Name Origin: For Madame Montour (c. 1682-1752), an early PA settler. Of French-Canadian and Indian stock, she was captured and adopted at age ten by an Iroquois tribe. She later used her background as an Indian interpreter and greatly influenced Indian affairs in PA and NY
