Name Origin: For Col. Gideon Curtis Moody (1832-1906), officer in the Civil War, Dakota Territory legislator, and one of the first two U.S. senators from SD (1889-91). Area (sq mi): 521.10 (land 519.67; water 1.43). Pop per sq mi: 12.80. Pop 2005: 6,637. State rank: 28. Pop change: 2000-20005 0.60%; 1990-2000 1.40%. Pop 2000: 6,595 (White 84.50%; Black or African American 0.30%; Hispanic or Latino 0.80%; Asian 0.60%; Other 14.30%). Foreign born: 1.40%. Median age: 37.00.
