Moretto, Il

    0.06 sec.
Moretto, Il (ēl mōrĕt`tō), c.1498–1554, Italian painter, whose real name was Alessandro Bonvicino. He was a leading representative of the Brescian school. While following the art of the Venetian masters, he developed a rather saccharine style. Many of his altarpieces are still in the churches of Brescia. There are portraits by him in the Metropolitan Museum; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and National Gallery, London. His most famous pupil was Giovanni Battista Moroni.
