Morogoro

(mō'rōgō`rō), municipality (2012 pop. 315,866), capital of Morogoro prov., E Tanzania. It is the commercial and transportation center for a region producing sisal, coffee, and livestock. Tobacco is processed there.

It is the trade center of an agricultural region that produces sisal, sugarcane, vegetables, grain, and other crops. Industry is represented by a sugar refinery, hulling and flour mills, metalworking, and the production of building materials.
