    0.01 sec.
Morozov, Georgii Fedorovich

Born Jan. 7 (19), 1867, in St. Petersburg; died May 9, 1920, in Simferopol’. Russian silviculturist, botanist, and geographer.

In 1893, Morozov graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Forestry. He was a professor there from 1901 to 1917 and at Tauride University in Simferopol’ from 1918 to 1920. He was the editor of Lesnoi zhurnal (Forestry Journal) between 1904 and 1918.

Morozov took a modern approach to silvics, treating the forest as a biogeocenotic, geographic, and historical phenomenon. He showed the complex interconnection between the living and inert components of the forest, which form a single natural complex. He studied the various types of plantings, developed ideas about successions of tree species and the communities formed by them, and substantiated the theory of felling and reforestation. Morozov’s work greatly influenced the development of biogeocenology and silvics.
