Morskoi Flot

(Merchant Marine), the monthly journal of the Ministry of Merchant Marine of the USSR, published in Moscow.

Morskoi flot is one of the oldest journals in the USSR. Its predecessor was Russkoe sudokhodstvo (Russian Navigation), founded in 1886. In 1918 it was renamed Vodnyi transport (Water Transport) and in 1941 it received its present name. The journal deals with matters related to shipping and with problems of navigation and the operation of a merchant fleet. Morskoi flot publishes navigation data and reviews, descriptions of new vessels, articles on the history of seafaring, and reviews of works by writers who deal with marine topics. Circulation, about 60,000 (1974).
