Mosolov, Vasilii Petrovich
Born Aug. 13 (25), 1888, in the village of Mari-Turek, Mari-Turek Raion, Mari ASSR; died Feb. 10, 1951, in Moscow. Soviet agricultural scientist; academician (1935) and vice-president (1939–51) of the Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Became a member of the CPSU in 1932. Mosolov came from a poor Marn peasant family. From 1924 to 1938 he headed the chair of general agriculture at the Kazan Agricultural Institute. Beginning in 1938 he worked at the Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences. His research was devoted to the tillage of podzolic soils, the fertilization of fields, the overwintering of winter crops, and grass cultivation and crop rotation in the central regions of the USSR. A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR in 1943 and 1951, Mosolov was also awarded three orders and a medal. WORKSSoch., vols. 1–5. Moscow, 1952–55.Mnogoletnie travy. Moscow, 1950.
