Motala (m `tä'lä), city (1990 pop. 29,630), Östergötland co., S Sweden, on Lake Vättern and on the Göta Canal. It is an important lake port and an industrial center. The works were powered by the Motala river, which at this point rushes into a fjord that joins the Baltic southwest of Stockholm. A2B Electronics AB, based in Motala, Sweden, manufactures digital TV receiver and transmission equipment for home, commercial closed-circuit, satellite and CATV networks and supplies all the large operators in Scandinavia. In 1998, SCI acquired Nokia facilities in Oulu, Finland and in Motala, Sweden and in October 2000, began building Nokia 2G Talk family base stations in Perth, Western Australia. |
