Motala

Motala (m`tä'lä), city (1990 pop. 29,630), Östergötland co., S Sweden, on Lake Vättern and on the Göta Canal. It is an important lake port and an industrial center. Manufactures include locomotives and radio and television sets. The city has a powerful radio transmitter and a hydroelectric power plant.

a city in Sweden, located in the län (county) of Östergötland on the Motala River near Lake Vättern. Population, 37,700 (1972). Motala’s industries include machine building, electrical engineering, and textiles. A hydroelectric power plant is located on the rapids of the Mótala River.
