Moulouya

Moulouya 

a river in eastern Morocco. Length, 520 km. The Moulouya finds its source in the Middle Atlas Mountains and flows through a wide depression with semidesert climate and vegetation. The river empties into the Mediterranean Sea. It is fed by melting snow and by rain. Its discharge varies from 1,000 cu m per sec in early spring to 1 cu m per sec in summer. In its lower course is a hydroengineering complex and the Mechra Homadi irrigation system; higher on the Moulouya is a dam, with a hydroelectric power station, reservoir, and the Mechra Klila irrigation system.
