Mount Apo

a volcano on Mindanao Island (Philippines) on the western shore of Davao Gulf. Mount Apo is the highest point in the Philippines (2,965 m). It is in a solfatara stage, venting sulfurous gases, carbon dioxide, and steam. Mount Apo is located in Mount Apo National Park (about 77,000 hectares), where dense tropical evergreen dipterocarpous forests are preserved. Here dwell rare native and relict species of the Philippines, such as the monkey-eating or harpy eagle and the Echinosorex gimnurus.
