Mount Isa

 

a city in Australia, in Queensland. Population, 25,000 (1971). It is served by railroad and is a highway junction. Mount Isa is a large mining center for copper and polymetallic ores. Lead, zinc, and copper are smelted there, after which they are shipped by railroad to the port of Townsville for export.
