The peak is 10,457 ft (3,187 m) high and is the principal attraction of Lassen Volcanic National Park, which occupies an area of 106,372 acres (43,047 hectares). In 1821 Luis Argüello, a Spanish officer, became the first European to discover the peak. It is named for Peter Lassen, an explorer who guided settlers through the area. Lassen Peak a volcano in S California, in the S Cascade Range. An area of 416 sq. km (161 sq. miles) was established as Lassen Volcanic National Park in 1916. Height: 3187 m (10 457 ft.) Berman does an excellent job of both setting up a scientific chain of events, aided by historical analysis, and creating the present day human story of Mount Lassen. The fish caught by Vandevelde and Lopez were hatchery fish raised in private Mount Lassen Trout Farms pools in Red Bluff. Sierra Gold, which has its roots in La Canada, hasn't announced a new product, but the Mount Lassen Trout Hatchery in Red Bluff is introducing its own dough bait, Crave. |
