Monte Viso

a mountain massif in northwestern Italy, in the Cottian Alps. The maximum elevation is 3,841 m. Monte Visco is formed primarily of greenstone (amphibolites, serpentinites). The slopes are steep and dissected by deep canyons. In the ridges there are perpetual snows and small glaciers, which are the sources of the Po River. Below are alpine and subalpine meadows, coniferous forests (firs and pines), and broad-leaved forests (beeches and oaks).
