Mountain Damara
a people inhabiting the headwaters of the Ugab and Omaruru rivers in Namibia. There are over 40,000 Mountain Damara (1967 estimate). They speak one of the Hottentot languages. Some maintain the local traditional beliefs; the rest are Christian. The main occupation is cattle raising; some farming is also done. The Mountain Damara are descendants of part of the Herero, who were subjugated by the Hottentot and adopted their language and culture. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
