Mowatt, Anna Cora (b. Ogden) (1819–70) actress, playwright; born in Bordeaux, France. Daughter of a well-to-do American merchant, she came to the U.S.A. at age seven. She started out as a playwright, and her social satire, Fashion, was a success in 1845. Despite earlier ill health, she then became an actress, debuting as Pauline in The Lady of Lyons. She later formed her own company, which traveled to London. How to thank TFD for its existence?
