The route was traveled by the wagon trains carrying settlers to the Oregon Territory and on to the Willamette Valley. At either endpoint, byway connects to the Historic Columbia River Highway (an "All-America Road"), making a natural loop around the mountain, and offering access to three of Oregon's unique natural wonders: Multnomah Falls, the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood. It also offers exceptional recreational opportunities, including year-round skiing on Mount Hood at Timberline and world-class wind surfing in the Hood River. Legth: 105 miles. Start/Endpoint: Byway runs along SR 35 from Troutdale to Hood River. Time to Allow: 3 hours. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2005). See other parks in Oregon.
