Size: 7,241 acres.
Established: Act providing for acquisition of land, establishment, and development of the parkway authorized on May 29, 1930. The road in Maryland was renamed the Clara Barton Parkway on November 28, 1989.
Location: Parkway includes two main sections: the 25-mile Virginia section that runs from Mount Vernon northward along the Potomac River to I-495; and the the Clara Barton Parkway in Maryland that follows the Potomac River for 7 miles from Chain Bridge in Washington, DC, to north of I-495.
Facilities: Picnic area, rest rooms (é), restaurant/snacks, bicycle trail, boat ramp, visitor center, museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.
Activities: Hiking, bicycling, boating, fishing, auto touring.
Special Features: This landscaped riverfront parkway links many landmarks in the life of George Washington, while preserving the natural scenery along the Potomac River. It connects historic sites from Mount Vernon, where George Washington lived, past the National Capital, which he founded, to the Great Falls of the Potomac, where he demonstrated his skill as an engineer.

Web: www.nps.gov/gwmp/ Description: Designed and managed as a memorial to the first President of the United States, the parkway passes monuments and memorials, wildlife preserves and historic homes, waterfalls and scenic overlooks. Points of interest include Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, Fort Hunt, Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, Arlington House, Arlington National Cemetery, Claude Moore Colonial Farm, Fort Marcy, and Great Falls Park. In addition to its status as an All-American Road, the parkway is also a unit of the National Park System.
Legth: 25 miles. Start/Endpoint: Starting at the Mount Vernon Estate, byway runs north, passing through the city of Alexendria, to its endpoint just past the Claude Moore Colonial Farm. Time to Allow: 1 hour. Designation/Year: All-American Road (2005).
