Mtavari
(Georgian, “main” or “oldest”), prominent feudal lords who occupied important state positions in feudal Georgia. From the 16th to the 18th centuries, the mtavari became hereditary rulers of such semi-independent regions of Western Georgia as Abkhazia, Minegreliia, Svaneti, and Guria.
