mudflow

Flow of water that contains large amounts of suspended particles and silt. Mudflows usually occur on steep slopes where vegetation is too sparse to prevent rapid erosion, but they can also occur on gentle slopes under certain conditions. Factors other than slope include heavy precipitation in a short period and easily erodible material.

Mudflow 

a thin (up to 1 m thick) soil layer or drift and eluvial formation that moves (flows) down a slope under the influence of gravity as a result of saturation by meltwater, rainwater, or groundwater until it assumes a mudlike state. Mud-flows usually occur on smooth, unsodded slopes and on railroad embankments.

In the result of a mudflow which took place in Tonsk district of Issyk-Kul region on August 19 basements of more than 12 private houses and about 155 acres of truck patches were filled with mudflow accretion, silt, and sand-and-gravel soil, press service of Ministry of Emergencies reported.
Landslides and mudflows caused by rising and falling waters behind China's gigantic Three Gorges Dam has forced the relocation of over 28,000 people since September, state press said Friday.
