Munkácsi, Bernat
Born Mar. 12, 1860, in Nagyvárad, now Oradea, Rumania; died Sept. 21, 1937, in Budapest. Hungarian linguist and ethnologist. Academician of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1910). Munkácsi graduated from the University of Budapest in 1882. His principal works dealt with comparative-historical linguistics, Turkic and Iranian studies, and ethnology. He studied the Finno-Ugric peoples of the Volga region and western Siberia. He edited the journal Ethnographia and was the founder of the journal Keleti Szemle (Eastern Review).
