Muonio

 

a river on the border between Sweden and Finland, a left-bank tributary of the Torne River. Originating from Lake Kilpisjärvi, the Muonio is 333 km long and drains an area of 14,400 sq km. The mean flow rate is 165 cu m per sec. The river is frozen for seven or eight months of the year. It is fed chiefly by melted snow. There is high water in May and June.
