Muradov, Shirin
Born Aug. 18, 1880, in Bukhara; died Feb. 12, 1957, in Tashkent. National architect, interior decorator, and engraver in ganch (a binding material used in plastering). Honored Art Worker of the Uzbek SSR (1943). Honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR (1943). Muradov constructed and decorated residential buildings in Bukhara and the palace of Sitorai-Makha-khos near Bukhara (c. 1910–20). In the Soviet period he restored architectural monuments and carved decorations on many buildings in Tashkent. His most significant work was the carved ornamentation of the Bukhara Hall (carved panels, ceilings, and cornices) of the Navoi Theater of Opera and Ballet in Tashkent (1947; State Prize of the USSR, 1948).
