Muratov, Valentin Ivanovich
Born July 30, 1928, in the village of Kostiukovo, Serpukhov Raion, Moscow Oblast, RSFSR. Soviet athlete and gymnast, coach, and instructor. Honored Master of Sports (1952). Member of the CPSU since 1958. At the Olympic Games of 1952 and 1956, Muratov won a total of four gold medals, for both individual events within the combined events and the team championship. In the 1954 and 1958 world championships he earned a total of five gold medals, including one for all-around champion. He was also a champion of the USSR in 1953 and 1956, winning a total of six gold medals, including two for all-around champion. Muratov has been awarded the Order of Lenin.
