Murray, Sean
Born June 15, 1899, in Cushendall, Antrim; died May 26, 1961, in Belfast. A figure in the Irish labor movement. A construction worker, Murray took an active part in the national liberation movement in Ireland from 1917 to 1923. He helped found the Communist Party of Ireland in 1933, was its general secretary from 1933 to 1940, and participated in the Seventh Congress of the Comintern in 1935. Murray was general secretary of the Communist Party of Northern Ireland from 1942 to 1960 and served as the party’s chairman in 1960–61. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
