Musatov, Aleksei Ivanovich 

Born Mar. 12 (25), 1911, in the village of Lizunovo, present-day Aleksandrovsk Raion, Vladimir Oblast. Soviet Russian author. Member of the CPSU from 1952.

Musatov was the son of a peasant. He graduated from the Editorial and Publishing Institute in 1934. Musatov writes mainly about rural youth and children’s participation in social labor, as in the novellas Shankhaika (1930) and Stozhary (1948; State Prize of the USSR, 1950), the play Precious Grain (1950, based on themes from Stozhary), and the novella House on the Hill (1951). The novella Klava Nazarova (1958) was devoted to the feats of Komsomol youth during the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). The collection of stories Lungwort (1967) was written for children. Musatov’s books have been translated into many languages of the peoples of the USSR. He has received two orders and several medals.
