Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Muscatel

a dessert wine made from muscat varieties of white, pink, and black grapes. Depending on the grape-growing region and the production methods, the wine contains from 13 to 16 percent alcohol by volume and from 20 to 30 percent sugar. Muscatels are characterized by a specific aroma, which is created by the essential oils contained in the grape. The best muscatels in the USSR are made on the southern coast of the Crimea; good muscatels are also produced in the Armenian SSR, Kirghiz SSR, and Moldavian SSR. Muscatels are the best dessert wines of the USSR and have repeatedly received gold medals at international contests.
