Mushroom Rock State Park


Location:12 miles east of Ellsworth, near Kanopolis State Park (see separate entry).
Facilities:Day use area only, with historic landmark.
Special Features:Kansas' smallest state park features unusual mushroom-shaped rocks that served as landmarks and meeting places for Native Americans and early pioneers. The rocks are a geological phenomenon of sandstone spheres balanced on softer pedestals of sandstone, with the largest rock measuring 27 feet in diameter.
