Muziano, Girolamo

    0.03 sec.
Muziano, Girolamo (jērō`lämō mtsyä`nō), c.1528–1592, Italian mannerist painter, also known as Girolamo Bressano. His large painting, The Resurrection of Lazarus (Pinacoteca, Vatican), gained him the friendship of Michelangelo. Muziano was noted for his landscapes, as well as for some mosaics for the Vatican that he designed with great finesse. He painted many historical compositions for the churches and palaces of Rome and was instrumental in the founding of St. Luke's Academy. He was also superintendent of the works of the Vatican under Gregory XIII.
