There is only one study that correlates the direct presence of a Mycoplasmataceae family microorganism (Mycoplasma genitalium) with acute salpingitis, (14) and another exploring the occurrence of this bacteria in the recto uterine pouch, (13) but to the authors' knowledge there are no published studies exploring the direct association of PCR confirmed mycoplasma detection inside a Fallopian tube by and tubal damage diagnosed by laparoscopy.
Among infected patients, the analysis was also performed considering those who were infected exclusively with Mycoplasmataceae species.
