Mergui ArchipelagoGroup of more than 200 islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of southeastern Myanmar. The largest island is Mali Kyun (Tavoy Island) at its northern end. Other major islands in the group include Kadan (King), Thayawthadangyi (Elphinstone), Daung (Ross), Saganthit (Sellore), Bentinck, Letsok-aw (Domel), Kanmaw (Kisseraing), Lanbi (Sullivan's), and Zadetkyi (St. Matthew's). Mountainous and jungle-covered, the islands are inhabited chiefly by the Selungs. The islands are an underwater extension of the mountain ranges of central Indochina. There are more than 800 islands and granite cliffs, with a total area of about 3, 500 sq km. Hills and lowlands with elevations of up to 767 m, covered by dense tropical forests, predominate. Along the coasts in certain areas there are mangrove forests.
