Myl’nikov, Grigorii Mikhailovich 

Born May 25, 1919, in the village of Egor’evka, now Kastornoe Raion, Kursk Oblast. Major (1944); twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Feb. 23, 1945; Apr. 19, 1945). Member of the CPSU from 1942.

Myl’nikov joined the Soviet Army in 1939. He graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military School for Pilots in 1940. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45) he served on the Western, Leningrad, and Third Byelorussian fronts as a pilot, flight commander, deputy squadron commander, and squadron commander in the 15th Guards Assault Air Regiment, as well as deputy regimental commander. He made 223 combat flights. Myl’nikov has been in the reserves since November 1945 for reasons of health. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
