INTRODUCTION: Myositis ossificans progressiva is a severe disabling disorder occurring as a rare sporadic or autosomal dominant disorder.
Myositis ossificans progressiva or fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a rare connective tissue disease characterized by widespread, progressive, ectopic ossification of soft tissues (striated muscles, tendons, fasciae, ligaments and subcutaneous tissues).
It is broadly classified into two clinical subtypes; myositis ossificans progressiva (MOP) and myositis ossificans traumatica (MOT).
FOP is also known as myositis ossificans progressiva.
