Näsijärvi

a lake in southwestern Finland. Its area is 250 sq km, and its maximum depth is 58 m. The ragged shoreline is high and wooded. Näsijärvi is connected by a short strait with Lake Vankavesi to the north. It drains southward into the Pyhäjärvi, a lake, via the Tammer Rapids, which are 1 km long and have falls as steep as 18 m. The level of Näsijärvi is regulated by a dam. Timber is transported on the lake. The city of Tampere is situated on the lake’s southern shore.
