Néel Point

(also Néel temperature), the temperature T_N above which an antiferromagnetic substance (antiferromagnet) loses its specific magnetic properties and becomes a paramagnetic substance, or paramagnet (a second-order phase transition). Near T_N, anomalies of nonmagnetic properties of antiferromagnets, such as the specific heat, coefficient of thermal expansion, and temperature coefficient of the electrical conductivity, reach maximum values. The Néel point is named after L. Néel. (SeeANTIFERROMAGNETISM.)
