Nabati, Seyid Abul’gasim 

Born 1812 in the village of Ushtibin in southern Azerbaijan; died there 1873. Azerbaijani poet.

Nabati wrote in both Azerbaijani and Persian. He was influenced by classical Eastern poetry and folk poetry. His works, which exhibit a perfection of form, played a definite role in the development of poetry based on the ashug (Azerbaijani folk poetry and songs) tradition. In his lyric poetry, he celebrated earthly love and the joys of living. Anticlerical notes are sometimes sounded in his works, and his philosophical verses are imbued with pantheistic ideas.
