Nadiradze, Kolau (Nikolai) Galaktionovich 

Born Feb. 24 (Mar. 8), 1895, in Kutaisi. Soviet Georgian poet.

Nadiradze studied at the faculty of law of Moscow University from 1912 to 1916. He was a leading representative of Georgian literary symbolism, and in 1916 his works appeared in the anthology The Blue Horns, the organ of the Georgian symbolists. His first book of poems, Catafalque, appeared in 1920. In the mid-1920’s, Nadiradze moved away from symbolism and began depicting Soviet reality in his poetry. He is the author of numerous poetry collections, including On the Great Road (1946), Verses (1955), and Verses and a Narrative Poem (1964). He compiled Selected Works: Verses and Translations (1962), which contains Russian poems and translated French poems. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
