Nametkin, Nikolai Sergeevich
Born Aug. 3 (16), 1916, in Moscow. Soviet organic chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1962), Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1949. In 1963 he was appointed director of the Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Nametkin’s main works are devoted to the structure and properties of naphthenic acids, alkylation with acetylene hydrocarbons, and the chemistry of naphthenic hydrocarbons. His research on unsaturated and cyclic silicic hydrocarbons led to the formation of a previously unknown class of macromolecular compounds called polysilicic hydrocarbons, which have valuable technical properties. Many of his inventions have been put to use in industry. Nametkin has been awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1950), the Order of the October Revolution, and several medals.
