Narmaev, Morkhadzhi Bambaevich 

Born Jan. 23 (Feb. 5), 1915, in the village of Mandzhikiny, present-day Iki Burul Raion, Kalmyk ASSR. Soviet Kalmyk author. Member of the CPSU since 1942.

Narmaev graduated from the Piatigorsk Zootechnical Institute in 1941. Between 1941 and 1945 he fought in the Great Patriotic War. He obtained a doctorate in agricultural sciences in 1966. Narmaev began to publish his writings in 1934. He is the author of the collections Poetry (1938) and I Remember: Verses and Poems (1965), the novellas Sandzhi (1941), Molm (1960), Boova (1961), Naran, the Heart of Gold (1968; Russian translation, 1968), and The Black-headed Crane (1972), the novels Comrade (1960) and Manych River (1963; Russian translation, 1968), and the play The Flower of Life (1963). Narmaev’s works are devoted to events of World War II and to his heroic contemporaries, as well as to collective farm life. They have been translated into the languages of the peoples of the USSR and foreign languages. Narmaev has been awarded three orders and a number of medals.
