Nasyrli, Iakub 

Born Nov. 8, 1899, in Baku; died Nov. 11, 1958, in Alupka. Soviet Turkmen poet. Member of the CPSU from 1925. Served in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.

Nasyrli first appeared in print in 1925. His first collection of poems, Verses, was published in 1941. At the front, he composed the narrative poems The Lieutenant’s Son (1941) and Courage (1942) and the collection Smash the Enemy (1943). The 1955 collection Verses is largely devoted to the friendship of peoples and the work of Soviet people. Nasyrli wrote the play Arslan, short stories, and works for children. He translated poems by V. V. Mayakovsky, S. Ia. Marshak, Dzhambul, and S. Vurgun into Turkmen.
