Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site


Location:West of Springfield, near Ash Grove in Greene County.
Activities:Guided tours.
Special Features:This one-and-one-half story log house was the home of Daniel Boone's youngest child, Colonel Nathan Boone, a hunter, soldier, surveyor, and entrepreneur. Boone's three sons and two of his slaves built the house in 1837, which was the hub of a 720-acre farm. He, his wife, and other family members are buried near the house, while another cemetery near Boone's grave contains the remains of at least 16 men, women, and children who were kept as slaves on the farm.
