National Environmental Policy Act of 1969

The act set up the Council on Environmental Quality to assure consideration for environmental factors, including historic preservation, in federal project planning. It included preservation among the considerations requiring environmental impact statements for all major federal actions affecting the quality of human environment, such as urban quality, historic and cultural resources, environmental sensitivity, and the responsible design of the built environment.
