Iraq Museum
the largest art museum in Iraq; located in Baghdad. Founded in 1923, the museum is located in a modern architectural complex specially built for it in 1957–63 (architect W. March). It contains collections of remains of primitive culture; treasures of Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian art; and Parthian, Sassanid, and Moslem works of art. The collections of the museum consist primarily of finds made by archaeological expeditions that have worked in Iraq. REFERENCESSokrovishcha Iraka. Drevnee Dvurech’e.
