Natroshvili, Georgii Konstantinovich 

Born Jan. 10 (23), 1910, in the village of Zemo-Machkhaani, in what is now Tsiteli-Tskaro Raion. Soviet Georgian writer and literary scholar. Member of the CPSU since 1939.

Natroshvili graduated from the department of language and literature of the University of Tbilisi in 1933. He served in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.

Natroshvili first published in 1930. He is the author of the The Art of David Kladiashvili (1935), Aleksandr Kazbegi (1949), David Guramishvili (1955), Georgii Leonidze (1958), and The Tale of Baratashvili (1968) and the collections of articles Ancestors and Contemporaries (1961) and On the Border Between Two Centuries (1963). Natroshvili’s collections of short stories, including On the Western Front (1943), Spring Over the Iori (1957), and The Death of a Carefree Man (1961; Russian translation, 1965), have earned him success as a prose writer. From 1943 to 1963 he was editor in chief of the Georgian Literaturnaia gazeta (Literary Newapaper); in 1963 he became editor in chief of the journal Drosha (The Banner).

Naroshvili was a deputy to the eighth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the Georgian SSR. He has been awarded four orders and several medals.
