Ndola (əndō`lä), city (1990 est. pop. 376,311), N central Zambia, near the Congo. It is a commercial, mining, and manufacturing center, located in the Copperbelt Copperbelt, mining region, N central Zambia, central Africa. A natural extension of the mineral-rich region of Katanga, the Copperbelt is one of the richest sources of copper in the world. Cobalt, selenium, silver, and gold are also produced.

. Copper mining in Ndola long antedates the coming of the Europeans (c.1900). Manufactures include cement, footwear, and soap; motor vehicles are assembled. Ndola is the site of Northern Technical College (1964) and a campus of the Univ. of Zambia (1978).

Ndola 

a city in Zambia. Population, 150,800 (1969 census). Ndola is a railroad junction and commercial center for the copper belt of Central Africa. There is an airport. Ndola is the terminus of the Tanzam fuel pipeline from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. There are copper-electrolyzing and chemical plants, a sugar refinery, and enterprises of light industry. In 1974 work was begun on an oil refinery (output of 1.1 million tons per year).
