(medicine)
A condition in which the focal image is formed in front of the retina of the eye. Also known as nearsightedness.

Some reasons for not being a LASIK candidate include too great amount of near-sightedness, the cornea may be too thin, or the pupils too large combined with a high amount of near-sightedness.
The new system incorporates a disposable blade in a patented non-gear-driven housing that is used to cut the corneal flap for LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) surgery, the popular surgical procedure for correcting near-sightedness.
Lasik is currently approved for the correction of near-sightedness and has steadily gained in popularity among the public over the past few years.
