Necrophorus

a genus of beetles of the family Sylphidae (carrion beetles). Body length, 11–40 mm. The beetles are black and usually have two orange-yellow stripes on their elytra. They are widely distributed (except in tropical Africa and Australia). In the USSR there are 27 species. The beetles feed on offal. They deposit their eggs on small animal and bird carcasses, which they have buried by digging out the earth beneath the carrion.
